Do you believe in God? I believe in God. A lot people believe in God. But what does it mean to believe in God. What is the core meaning of this verb “to believe”.
Do you believe in Napoleon? I mean, do you believe he once lived and was the emperor of France? Yes you certainly do! There is a lot of evidence he lived, not that long ago in the 19th century, in France. He was an important general in the French army who gained a lot of power and conquered a large part of Europe before he fell (as most dictators do). But does it help you in your daily live that you know Napoleon existed? No, it doesn’t, Napoleon is dead and he has no real impact on your life today.
Is this the kind of belief you have in God? You just know God exists, but He doesn’t have an impact on your live? Then your belief is dead and you have a serious problem.
One day you will stand in front of the judgment seat of God and if there is no “real” belief in your life, He will find you guilty as charged. Believing in God does mean you know He exists, but it also means you have a relationship with Him. It means you listen to Him, obey Him, talk to Him and follow in the footsteps of His son, Jesus Christ. It means you admit you are a sinner. It means you are in need of Gods Grace. God can forgive you because His son Jesus died on the cross in your place. He suffered the punishment you deserved and that’s why you are free. Believing in God does not imply just knowing He exists or thinking Jesus died on the cross. No, it means you obey Him and follow His son. Then He will have a major impact on your life. You will experience a relationship with your Creator. Believing is obeying and following.
How lucky we are to have a patient and loving Savior. He gives us all the time we need to change and to repent, He gives us enough time to learn what it means to follow Him. But one day His patience will dry up, or time will run out. Many believe that time is very near. You still have a choice. Will you follow Him? Or will you choose to be your own god? I hope you choose well.
