Very strong and shallow M6.4 earthquake hits central Croatia, severe damage reported

A very strong and shallow earthquake registered by the EMSC as M6.4 hit central Croatia at 11:19 UTC (12:19 LT) on December 29, 2020. The agency is reporting a depth of 10 km (6.2 miles). USGS is reporting M6.4 at a depth of 10 km (6.2 miles). GFZ Croatia is reporting M6.2 — website currently unavailable due to high load. 

The epicenter was located just north of the city of Petrinja (population 24 641), 12 km (7.4 miles) WSW of Sisak (population 35 700), and 44 km (27.3 miles) SE of capital Zagreb (population 698 000), Croatia.
