The longer a leader stays in power the more difficult it becomes for that leader to step down from power.
This is clearly the case with Vladimir Putin, who is in power since 2000. He recently changed the constitution so he can remain in office for year to come.
Since the year 2000 Russia has had several economic crises and each time Putin had to pull some tricks to remain in power and silence the increasing resistance from his people.
