How to make sure you have oil in your lamp.

Oil lamps 5 wise virgins

The title of this article is referring to the parable of the 5 foolish and the 5 wise virgins in Matthew 25. When the bridegroom came, only those virgins with enough oil in their lamps could go into the wedding feast. Can you imagine being one of the foolish virgins? The horror when you see the rapture (this parable talks about the rapture) taking place and you’re left behind! A foolish virgin looks exactly like a wise virgin. Except for one thing. The wise have oil and the foolish don’t. What does this mean, why is Jesus giving us this parable? There is a group of christians out there who falsely claim that because they prayed a prayer once, often many years ago, and confess that Jesus is Lord, they are forever saved and nothing can take this salvation away from them. This is a false gospel! Jesus wants a relationship with you and if you don’t have this relationship, you don’t have oil in your lamp. You don’t have light in your life. It means you’re doing things from your own strength. Maybe the things you do look good from the outside, but if you don’t have a relationship with Jesus, you are doing it all out of your own strength.

What does it mean to have a relationship with Jesus? Let me start by asking a few questions: Do you talk to Jesus, do you pray? Do you pray daily? Do you read your bible, do you study Gods Word and try to apply it to your own life? Do you give the Holy Spirit room in your life to guide you and convince you of your sins? Do you repent of your sins? Do you forgive those that have sinned against you? All these things are important because if you want to have enough oil in your lamp this means that you must be known by Jesus. If you just talk to him every now and then and you’re not really committed to following Him, obeying Him, what does that make you? A wise or a foolish virgin? It is important to use the time you received wisely. You must examine your heart and see who sits on the throne of your live, is it Jesus or is it me, myself and I?

Jesus return is so near, but there is still time to turn things around and be like the wise virgins. Let’s fill our lamps with oil and be ready for when He comes!
