Longing for the Lord
The days slowely become darker, the nights grow longer, people start putting up Christmas trees, are hanging lights in their houses and gardens. These actions reminds us that Christmas is coming. Over 2000 years ago the Jewish people were waiting, hoping and praying for the arrival of the Messiah. God promised Abraham to make him the father of a great nation. God promised David that his descendants would be on the throne forever.
God promised a Saviour, a Redeemer, to set His people free. And God kept His Word. He sent His only Son into the world to restore His people and the nations. Today is the first Sunday of advent, the time in which we prepare ourselves for Christmas. Amidst this pandemic, the lawlessness, the natural disasters and political turmoil we can look forward and prepare to celebrate the birth of our Savior. Advent means waiting and is looking forward to the second coming of Jesus Christ. As we look forward and prepare for Christmas, we can look back to all the promises He fulfilled and know He keeps His promises. Jesus is coming!
